Roxy Theatre
Colorized photo of social event outside cinema mid-1932 courtesy Blue Mountains City Library. FOH signs read: ‘Unlike little boys these pictures should be seen and heard – 100% Natural Sound Talking Pictures.’ By December of that year, former Watson’s Bay exhibitor, William (Bill) Woodrick (1901-1989) had leased the business from the Saul family, six months later putting in new Magna-Coustian sound. Around this time he introduced the appellation ‘Plaza’ to the Springwood Picture Theatre – possibly inspired by Sydney’s mighty Hoyts Plaza which had recently opened.
