Sun Theatre
Redesigned front-of-house in August 1939, two weeks after re-opening as the Sun. From ‘A Pictorial History of Sydney Suburban Cinemas Volume One’ by Barry Sharp. Despite the modern art-deco upgrade of the theater, leaseholder Craven was having trouble paying his rent, and soon had his tenancy terminated. He died shortly after eviction in early 1940, and his estate was pursued for back monies owing. Builder T. J. Mooney at the same time sued the company for the unpaid balance on his renovation work.
