Background Info courtesy of Lew Irwin The 1927 movie that the wire-walker is drawing attention to, The Rough Riders, was one of the last silent-film extravaganzas. It was, of course, about Teddy Roosevelt’s volunteer cavalry unit that fought against Spain in Cuba during the War of 1898. It was directed by Victor Fleming, who went on to direct The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, and the cameraman was the legendary James Wong Howe. It was produced by Adolph Zuckor and Jesse L. Lasky at about the same time that they were renaming their company Paramount Pictures Corporation.
