The downtown area like most urban centers was the historical location where leisure and entertainment activities occurred. Since movie theaters developed in a age that had limited transportation for most of the population, people could use mass transit like streetcars to arrive at a theater before automobiles became more affordable to the general public. Otherwise, people usually had a neighborhood theater or two that was in reasonable walking distance to see a second-run feature. Currently, there are no downtown theaters showing daily movies and only the Ohio has classic features in the summer, while the Palace and Southern are live performing centers. The single screen Grandview was open throughout 2023 for movies.
