An update is needed here. There are actually five screens. The main auditorium has not been divided and is mostly in its original condition except for the addition of silver tinsel curtains and the stage being enlarged.Double feature last run, kung-foo, and classics are shown here with program changes every Sunday and Thursday. They also show special events like awards shows and sporting events. Most of the seating in the orchestra level was reupholstered about 10 years ago when new carpet was installed. The seating in the balcony was reupholstered as well but looks like it was taken from a much older theater. The next screen is located behind the lobby in a room with seating for seven with a similar program as the main auditorium. The other three screens are in spaces that used to be shoppes to the right of the lobby. One has a small standing room only balcony. The next one has video booths behind the screen, and the last one has video booths in the back. Adult double features are shown in those auditoriums.
The description for this theater needs to be updated. There are four screens. Three are on the first floor. The auditorium in the middle seats approximately 24 and runs cable T.V. networks such as USA or AMC. The auditorium to the right and left run adult films. these seat 15 and 12. Behind these auditoriums there are rows of private video booths. The former balcony is the fourth auditorium and runs adult films and has around 124 seats. That makes the current capacity of this theater approximately 151. The seating on the first floor is newer but in very poor condition. The balcony has original seating that is in surprisingly good shape. The lobby has almost no furnishings except for a few stools and vending machines. The bathrooms are in the basement where there is a lounge area consisting of some old auditorium seats and an old T.V. set. Considering what type of theater this is the facility is in pretty good condition and clean.
I heard on the News today that the building is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with high rise apartment buildings. The current occupants have been given only 30 days notice to leave. The interior of the theater was briefly shown and it looks like the original details are still present. I use to live in the area and recall the beautiful art deco decor. I am going to try and pay a visit and take pictures to post here. If any one else can do so I urge you to do it as soon as possible.
Yesterday while at the theater I spoke with some staff and the manager about the rumors concerning the sale of the building. I was told that it is not true, the Fair will not be closing down any time soon. It is the last of its kind in the area. I get the feeling that the employees seem to take pride in the place.
Garth, glad to hear that they are still maintaining the facility. It was only a year ago that it was up for sale and in danger of being gone forever.
