This place was gorgeous and always had the best presentations of the films that played here. The last film I saw here was TOP GUN. One of my college mates worked as a projectionist in 1980. So sad that it’s gone though its a bookstore when last I knew.
Absolutely loved this theatre. The last film I saw here was THE MATRIX. The sound system in this theatre was the best, next to the Waikiki #2. I also remember seeing the revivals of 2001, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and BLADE RUNNER in the 90’s. I get a little misty whenever I drive by the building and see Checker Auto Parts in it’s place.
Quite possibly the worst place to see a movie in Hawaii. I haven’t seen a film there since 1999 and will never go back again. Horrid seating and sound system and just the fact that it’s in a mall and attracts all sorts of children that do not know how to behave properly. Just ghastly.
I love the fact that they show a lot of art house fare but this has to be my least favourite theatre in Hawaii. The seating is uncomfortable and the sound systems in all but the largest theatre are horrid.
This was one of my favourite theatres in San Diego. Saw THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, ALTERED STATES, TRON, STAR TREK II, BRAINSTORM and so many others there. The sound system was excellent too. So sad that it’s gone.
I grew up in San Diego and loved these theatres. I remember when they opened. The whole area was redone to revitalise the San Diego down town area. My friends and I used to frequent the theatres as the manager Paul Belshe was a very good friend from school. I was very saddened to hear he had passed away and at such a young age. I remember when he used to work at the Clairemont Theater.
Glad that the theatres are still around.
Nope, the last film I saw was STAR TREK IV.

I loved these theatres and they were always touting that their films were presented in Dolby Stereo. I recall seeing ALIEN here opening weekend.
