The opening of the Red Rock 4 was the beginning of the end for the first generation of single screen movie theaters clustered around the downtown area. It effectively siphoned off customers from the newer growth areas of town and, with four screens (originally), provided just about all the movie entertainment a person could want back then.
My Father, Harry Zumar, was the General Manager of the Nevada Theatre Corporation which ran the: Huntridge, Fremont, and Guild Theatres in the 1960s and 1970s. He passed away January 12 of this year at the age of 97.
It breaks my heart to see the current condition of this building which holds so many great memories for me —including my Father’s going away party when he left the organization to move to California in 1973.
