I saw Ben Hur on the giant Wynnewood screen. This was sometime in 1960, and already they were touting the opening of Windjammer in “Cinemiracle.” Ben Hur had previously played as a hard ticket film at the Tower, downtown.
The Longest Day opened at the Esquire, which also played host to West Side Story. As for the Northpark Cinemas, I believe it was Cinema II that carried hard ticket films. Besides Dr. Zhivago, it was also home to Oliver.
While visiting in Boston in the late 1990s, I saw Saving Private Ryan there. It was still a very nice theater at the time.
One of the many restorations of Gone With The Wind played there, I believe in 1966.
