The Welfare Hall Alice Springs NT - Photo courtesy of the “Punch & Marilyn Hall Collection - "Greg Lynch says - "The Show Must Go On” - The Welfare hall was located on the low lands running down to the Todd river. There is no doubt in my mind that the powers that be construction the building on stilts to keep it free & clear of any future flooding of The Alice. The Argus Melbourne ran this article March 2. 1936 “The Todd River has run bank-high five times in as many days, and the weather Is still threatening. Alice Springs has had five inches of rain In the last week. The road to Tennant Creek is impassable, and the mail train which left there a week ago Is marooned 100 miles north of Alice Springs. Although Alice Springs prom- ises to be cut off from the outside world for a long period, thankfully food Is not scarce” - Acknowledgement Pam Hodges -
