Having Inspected and voted upon 38 suburban -theatres since Tuesday. Hoyts' managers yesterday assembled at the Victory Theatre, St. Kilda, where luncheon was served, and awards and special prizes presented. The 1941 theatre shield winner was Southern Theatre, Hampton (Mr. A. Monahan Manager), with 2769 votes. The runner up, Eclipse Theatre Port Melbourne polled 2704 votes. The third theatre placed was the Windsor, with 2703 votes. Among those present were Brigadier D. Luxton, who administers training in the Southern Command, and whose name appears on the shield. Mr. Cecil Marks, manager in Australia for United Artists, and Mr. J. O'Callaghan (Hoyts' publicity), who came from Sydney. Managers of Victorian film exchanges and theatre suppliers, and theatre managers from Albury and Ballarat were present. Each of the visitors carried away a silver spoon as a memento. Mr. M. G. Sloman (General Manager) and Mr. George Griffith, Hoyts Manager for Victoria) presented the shleld and special prizes, in which; the Kew (Rialto), Essendon (Plaza) and Bentleigh shared. - Contributed by Greg Lynch -
