TALKIES COME TO THE CAPITOL THEATRE 1929 – Cinema History in the making – Published in the Truth 21 July 1929, Page.9. – Photo : The State Library of Western Australia.

The RCA Photophone – The most complete talkie machine in Australia. One of the RCA Photophone projectors being installed at the Capitol Theatre. The talkie apparatus is not ‘an addition’ like some other talkies, but a complete talkie projector. This is claimed to be the first to be installed in Australia.

Here we see In centre, Mr Jack Coulter, manager of the Capitol Theatre and Mr J. P. Koehler, American representative for the RCA Photophone, watching the unpacking of the Photophone talkie gear. It will take a fortnight for the Capitol to be completely wired, and it will take another four or five days for tests to be carried out to make the Photophone perfect – Photo : The State Library of Western Australia – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
