Plaza Theatre 191 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC – AUCTION – Some notes by historian Eric White.
The fittings from the Plaza and Regent were sold at auction during December 1970. The auction was held at the theatre where everything that was not bolted down was auctioned off, and all for just a few thousand dollars. late in 1970. The Plaza’s organ had been removed in 1968 and sold to the Theatre Organ Society. It was installed in the auditorium of a private school in Adelaide, where it remains today. The Cinerama equipment and prints were sent to a Hoyts warehouse in Sydney, where they were eventually joined by the equipment from the Sydney Plaza which closed in 1977 – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
