*Article – 50 ft – Wide Screen for “The Robe” by Deborah Garland

Melbourne s largest theatre screen — more than 50ft wide — will soon be built in the Regent Theatre, Collins Street. “Built” is the right word, for while the screen itself causes little trouble, a complicated, expensive scaffolding is needed to support It. Plans have not yet been passed, but the screen is expected to have a curve of about 5ft. It will be ready for the opening of 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe,” in November.

Taken from Lloyd Douglas’s Biblical story of the same name, this film has been made In the new CinemaScope process, and will have its premiere in New York next month. The Cinemascope, or wide-screen process, is regarded as the most satisfactory of the “revolutionary” processes yet introduced. Thu 3 Sept 1953 – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
