Approximately 6OO persons attended the official opening of Mr. T. A. Newman’s Lyric Theatre at Scottsdale on Saturday night. Shortly afer 7 o'clock people began to assemble in front of the theatre, and by half past a large crowd was waiting for the doors to open. Owing to the rush of work during the afternoon in getting the theatre ready for the opening, it was nearly 7.45 before the selling of tickets commenced, consequently there was a rush and scramble in the vicinity of the improvised ticket window, and many of the crowd had a tedious wait. Most of them, however, realised the difficulties the management had to contend with, and accepted the position with good grace.
The dress circle was soon filled to over flowing, and by 8.30 every seat in. the theatre was filled. At present there is seating accommodation for nearly 6OO. but more are available and can be provided If required. - Later during the evening Senator Hayes formally opened the Lyric theatre. (Loud applause) - Contributed by Greg Lynch -
