Exhibitor Peter Thomson & his partners were impressed with the dome showrooms of the Holden dealer in Beverley, and decided to construct a similar building at the Kambalda drive-in theatre. Peter approached the architect and the dome was built as the drive-in cafeteria, with the kitchen in the centre of the dome, food and drinks located around the walls, and patrons coming out through a turnstile.
It was a great attraction, and great advertising for the drive-in, and in fact people came from miles around to check it out. Eventually the Kambalda drive-in patronage declined, and it was forced to close. The dome concession building was re-located to the West Kambalda township where for a time it was used as a video store. The drive-in site in the late 1990s had mainly reverted back to bush-land.
