Tyler’s first drive-in theatre was the Starlite, which opened in September 1947
located on East Erwin Street, just inside East Loop 323. The grand opening was delayed five days due to damage to the grounds from a bad rainstorm.
Within a month, the 50-foot tall screen was toppled by another storm. The drive-in did survive, but closed in early 1973. On March 30, 1973, it reopened as the Circle, but only lasted a few months.
