As a former manager of the Kailua Theater, let me clarify the issue about the number of screens at the theater. During my management term (1997-1998), I researched the history of the theater. It started as a single-screen neighborhood theater, and later, a long wall was constructed down the center of the auditorium. It divided the auditorium into two sections, two screening auditoriums. The wall extended from the entrance into the auditoriums to the end of the building (behind the screens). This is when the theater became a two-screen theater. It never had four screens. The theater opened as the Holiday (Mart) Kailua Theatre in December of 1972.

On Wednesday, March 20, 1996, I was the projectionist for a special screening of “Words, Earth & Aloha” (1995), a film by Eddie and Myrna Kamae. Because the film was in the 16mm format, we used my projector to show the film. The small theater was packed with 70 people. Before the screening, Kamae, along with Claybourne “Braddah Smitty” Smith, performed a few songs. A magical evening for everybody.

What wonderful comments about the Astor Theatre. You folks know your New York Broadway theaters. I am hoping that you experts can answer my question. Where is the CT listing for the first Helen Hayes Theatre? I have looked under the different theater names (the Fulton, the Folies-Bergere), but have found no listing. Please advise me as to the Helen Hayes Theatre listing? Thank you for your assistance.
