Hickory Hollow Mall was my home in the 80s and early 90s. Many good times at Hickory Hollow Mall Cinemas. Worked at Bell Road Cinemas. When Bell Forge opened in 1984 it was only a 6 plex at the time. I went and saw Red Dawn. The theater was so new the parking lot was half paved. Great memories watching movies in the Hickory Hollow area. Also, Bell Forge was the flagship for Carmike for awhile. Good times.
It’s a shame that the above mentioned theaters I named are not listed on the Nashville listing on this website. I grew up in the Hickory Hollow area. Remember when it was just a field. Hickory Hollow had 4 theaters. Bell Forge 10, Bell Road Cinemas(3plex), Hickory Hollow Mall Cinemas(3plex). All closed. Hickory 8 is all that remains. Hickory Hollow Mall and Bell Road were originally Consolidated owned until Carmike bought them. Bell Forge and Hickory 8 were always Carmike built and owned.
I would say that 90-95% of movies I saw in the theater during my teens and 20s were at these theaters. Lot of memories, history, and fun over the years.
Another theater not listed is Hermitage 4(demolished). It used to be out there off Lebanon Rd. past THE HERMITAGE. I think it’s where the Krogers sits right before the Walmart. Only saw one movie there(Empire Strikes Back) for the second time. Sorry to go a little off topic but I really feel these theaters should be represented.
I remember watching movies at the twin. Saw The Last Dragon and The Lost Boys there. All true about it being a single and then they put the dividing wall down the middle. Kind of Funky because the screen went right to the wall, no border. It was also my very 1st job as a teenager back in 85'.
When they built Harding 6 that was the downfall of Cinema South, and as stated Harding 6 was in a declining neighborhood, no stadium seating and most of all Carmike Cinemas ran it which is the death of any movie house.
I worked at many Carmike owned theaters in South Nashville and only one is in existence today. Hickory 8 which is a $1.50 house.
Bell Forge 10, Cinema South, Capri Twin, Hickory Hollow Cinemas, Bell Road Cinemas are all gone. Bell Forge 10 is now a mosque. Funny, that in the late 80s early 90s it was the flagship of Carmike in the whole nation.
My mom worked there as a teenager in the 60s. It was in the movie “Escape from New York.” When I was in filmschool I drove up from Nashville and shot a documentary of the FOX for my production project. It’s my favorite theater ever. Best experience there was seeing Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom of the Opera w/my wife and family. I love the FOX. Wished I could drive up there every year to see a show. Would love to have seen an actually movie there.
I remember when my Grandma died in 86'. She lived on Juniata St for 40 years. We drove up from Nashville and stayed at her house during the funeral. I remember being depressed and walking the few blocks from her house to the RITZ. I never went in, it may have been closed by then. My mom and aunt told me that they used to walk there all the time to see movies as kids.
I was born in St. Lou and grew up over by my grandparents house on Juniata St and Gustine Ave. I remember seeing Nightmare on Elmstreet w/my dad and uncle and sister and being scared to death walking home, because every alley we would pass by my uncle would yell “THERE’S FREDDY!!!!!” Also saw Airplane. Hated that the theater couldn’t be saved.
Cinema South was where I saw Star Wars in 77'. Actually worked there before it closed. Worked at Bell Forge 10(Remember when it was 6?) Saw Red Dawn in 84' there now it’s a Mosque. Was the flagship of Carmike for years. Saw Empire Strikes Back at Hermitage 4 and Martin Twin which were demolished. Hickory Hollow Cinemas is a Dollar Tree now and the mall is about out of business. Saw Return of the Jedi at the old Bell Road Cinemas which was demolished and Hickory 8 Cinemas was built there which is now a $1.50 theater.
