thanks ken, was able to view them. that’s great work! now with the boards off, that area that can be seen, like the lobby area, is it still about the same as the last pix? or is there much deterioration, plaster falling, etc?
thanks a lot sam. i was able to google it, thanks to you. it’s nice to see that the garrick is being used for entertainment, like the old days, when i used to see movies there. guess there’s more entertainment coming to the garrick? i imagine they’re still using the place as a conferenc center as well?-garro
i haven’t lived in wpg for a very long time, used to go to the garrick&the other theatres when i lived there. i knew that the ramada hotel had taken it over. i knew it was being used as a conference center. i see that there are live performances happening there. when did this start, is it a new thing? it’s nice, at least the place is being used for entertainment, though it’s not movies. will this be the use from now on? will it also be used as a conference center?
hey all, since i don’t live in wpg., can someone tell me if they’ve started work on the theatre, or is it still the same? are the boards off the windows. can you get a clear view of the inside?
part of me does strongly agree. i would like to see the met restored to her original appearance and use, rather than sit and rot as she has all these years. this could have been done already, but no one did it. now there is a new owner and of course they have their own agenda. at least what they propose is still under the heading of entertainment, in the broad sense. and they will go ahead with their project unless they can be convinced to do what you’ve proposed. and i think the only way that could happen would be to present a petition with many mnay signatures, saying the public wants the met as a venue for movies&concerts. this could be done, if somebody really has the chutzpah to do it. but it would have to be done soon!
yes, bd, i hope you’re wrong that it’s not the nice kind, but i’m probably over-optimistic. it would be a terrible sin if there was a repeat of the capitol, but i don’t think that they can, though they probably want to, because of it’s heritage status. anyway, any further news, confirmed or unconfirmed will be gratefully received.
hi, you, of course are in the u.s., does the theatre have to be american? i ask, as i’m in canada, and i know of a beautiful large theatre in winnipeg manitoba that closed in 1988. there has been a lot of talk about what to do with it, but nothing has resulted yet. latest proposal is a rock n roll museum, but city fathers, i think, are still sitting on their hands. it is a protected heritage building, category 1. i went to this palace many times as a kid, when i lived there. it would be great if someone made the move to do something with this place. if u check the comments re. it, there are many many of us concerned with its fate. it’s the metropolitan.
thanks for that sam. that’s so sad about the capitol, this must never happen to the met. if only they could get moving&turn it back into a functioning entity.
so, all of the seats are just basically frames? are there any that are intact? what was the reason they stripped them-fire risk? so, at least because it’s a nat'l historic site, they can’t do any serious modifications. wonder why the same wasn’t applied to the capitol? if only it could have been saved.
well, it was just an idea. i don’t like the idea of slicing up the place, but also hurts that it continues sitting with no present use. but if the museum idea manifests itself into reality-how much of the interior will remain intact? there would have to be significant changes involved wouldn’t you think? and would they leave some/any of the seats? we have to consider these issues as well.
well, if it’s near a “done deal”, then i guess, so be it. but interesting concept above, by bd, for u of w. if the museum idea ends up in limbo, somedody, should serioulsy get this other idea to the powers that be. and really do a selling job on it, the feasability, and the many advantages, it could bring. smart thinking, bd.
one thing, i’d like to put forward, and must have already been suggested in the past-what about turning the place into a megaplex. a theatre that size should be able to be turned in to 4 rooms, or more. i realize there’s others nearby, but could it be feasible? must have been suggested to the city fathers previously? ever really considered? hate to see it split up, but still better alternative to nothing done.
can someone tell me, since i don’t live in wpg, when was the fox theatres demolished? and was there any real advance notice of the demolition?
thanks a lot ken, nice work. would be fantastick if the boards come off again, then u can shoot what’s seen through the windows.
it is pretty sad, the way she’s ended up. do hope you’ll have your camera in hand, one of the times you go by next.
that would be great if you could do that ken. will be much appreciated!

**changed my name to garro
thanks a lot for that, ken! really appreciate it-g
i beleive you’re right, sam. that is the best proposal heard in a long time. would be nice if it ends up a reality.

that’s great to hear! and thank you!
hi there, did you get a chance to check out the metropolitan in winnipeg?
cool, you’re welcome!
