Outer Lobby

This is a general view of the painted-over stained glass arched window which was revealed when the later dropped ceiling in the ticket lobby of the Market Street Cinema was removed during demolition. The window reads (backwards from inside) “GRAUMAN’S IMPERIAL THEATRE.” Later it was covered on the exterior with a wall of sheet metal, and then that was in turn covered in stucco. This high-ceilinged lobby was completely hidden from view during the 1930 Art Deco remodeling, when the theatre became the United Artists.

Thanks Gary for these great photos. It was great you were able to save the stained glass for the lobby of the new building going up on the former theatre site. Hope It can be cleaned up and the paint removed. Would be nice to have some old photos and movie ads from the old UA/Market ST Cinema Theatre also on display in the new building lobby space. Thanks again.
