The woman who currently owns the Savoy explained that originally, on this vacant lot, stood a grocery store. There was a gas station and restaurant on the opposite side of the theatre. The owner of the grocery store was always concerned that the carbon arc lamps in the projectors would one day cause the theatre to burn down, and take the grocery store with it. Ironically, the grocery store burned, while the theatre still stands. This mural and sign is on the firewall of the former grocery store. The gas station and restaurant also burned down.
