Sitwell Cinema
The Sitwell Cinema was built in Spondon in 1928 with the first film Brigadier Gerard, starring Rod le Rocque. It closed in 1958 and the last film was Bailout at 43,000 Feet starring John Payne and Karen Steele. It was converted into a supermarket. The photograph shows cinema-goers queuing to watch a Technicolour film of the Queen’s coronation in 1953
