I remember going here as kid with my family. There was murals on the walls inside the theatre. It might have been a western theme since that or Early California settlements. The last movie I saw here was Zapatos Viejos starring Gloria Trevi which was either 1994 or 1995. It became a cult christian church by some con artists from Brazil who had this thing about holy roses. I remember commercials on spanish tv for it and they showed the inside and they had painted over the murals with white paint. I don’t think it operates anymore as a church since there were several countries who had declared them a cult group. In Mexico they were cracking down on them since they were taking advantage of people who were desperate that if the gave certain amount of money they would get the blessed roses and/or ointment they problems would be resolved.
I remember watching b movies here such as Blood diner & the last triple feature I watched here was The Hunger, Daughters of Darkness & The Lost Boys. My firend had a crushon the guy who worked there. He had blond hair and pigtails if I remember correctly. Also he can be seen in the begging scenes of Market Street in Interview with the Vampire.
I remember this theatre as being really big. You would buy you’re ticket & walk throught the doors up the hallway. The refreshment counter was on the right hand side before the doord into the auditorium. I remember watching all sorts of movies here such as Scanners & Visitng Hours, Friday the 13th The final chapter & Cujo, Alpahbet City, Several La India Maria movies. The list goes on & on. :)
The last time I went here was when I watched The Hitcher & Trick or Treat starring the guy who played Skippy in Family Ties with Spanish subtitles & that must have been around the end of 1987.
I remember this theatre right across the street from the New Mission. I remember going to see movies in Spanish there with my family in the late 70’s & early 80’s. I remember it being blue & white on the outside.
The place was run down, the employees could be a bit crabby & homeless people scattered about sleeping. I wouldn’t have traded it, I remember paying $1 before 11am to see a triple feature & the shorts they played were funny such as the nude sking. :)
I have fond memories of the San Pablo Twin. I saw Meatballs, Private School & Flashdance here. Business dropped when Hilltop Cinemas opened & the final nail in the coffin was Century 9 opening in Pinole. The theater became 2 cheap clothing stores, I think one was called Foxy 9 & I can’t remember what the other was. Anyway, it’s all gone & became a townhouse development.
Chevy’s, Courtyard by Marriott & Apt complex now stands where the drive-in was. The last double feature I remember watching was Clash of the Titans & The Gates of Hell
