I was a manager at this theater back in ‘93. The original screen that was split in to two still had the same seats. All of them had ashtrays. On Thursdays when we built the Friday movies my employees would ask to preview in 1 or 2 so they could smoke while watching the movie.
I remember doing PM work at this theater’s projectors back in the 90’s. This was back when Carmike owned it. I was talking to the manager in the lobby and he suddenly made a wide circle around a newly installed patch of carpet. I asked him about it and he said, quite matter-of-factly, “That’s where the previous manager got shot.”
Livingston Kelley, who owns Livingston Photo a few blocks away from the old Ritz Theater told me that as soon as the theater was torn down, “All the rats in Ritz relocated to the Livingston Photo basement”
