Victoria Hall
The Victoria Hall, the Picturedrome and the Grand Picture Theatre on 2 July 1926.
This aerial photo shows the Victoria Hall submerged within the clock-towered complex that was the head office and main emporium of the Huddersfield Cooperative Society. The Coop has built on the open area that was between Buxton Road and the portico entrance to the hall. It looks (possibly) that the hall was left free-standing with alleys around it.
The south end of the hall, nearer to the camera, has a lean-to addition. Examination of the other aerial view (taken in 1934 and from the east, i.e. right) shows it to be a single storey construction (probably) cantilevered out on steel beams. Was that, perhaps, a projection room tagged on to the old building.
