Although I don’t know this to be a fact, I think it’s more likely that it was named after the original founder Jefferson A. Richards, grandfather of R. C. (Richard) Cobb. Jefferson A. Richards opened the family’s first theatre, Richards Theatre, in Fayette in 1927. I suspect the 1940 theatre replaced the original 1927 Richards Theatre. If anyone knows for sure, please feel free to confirm my conclusions or correct them.
