Ken,
Ken,
You are wrong, it IS the Liscard Electric Palace, built c 1911, and re-fronted in very early 1950’s, as the original frontage would have appeared so very old-fashioned by then (loads of ornate fibrous plasterwork etc )
Go to a fabulous site : historyofwallasey.co.uk
There you will find ORIGINAL frontage and interior, plus excellent info on all the Wallasey cinemas.
The Capitol stood at what is effectively the epicentre of Wallasey, and the shops surrounding it still stand.
Terry Dixon.
Kenni,
This photo of yours is almost certainly unique, and St Helens' historians have been searching for years for this picture!
Please contact Tom Preston PhD, at St Helens Libraries and History Services—this photo should go into local history archive where everyone can enjoy seeing it.
I found out about lack of knowledge of this photo on sthelens-connect.net, where local people upload memories and basically chat together. The post I read had been uploaded to that site in 2011.
