By the way, I clicked on the Photos link that comes up if you hover your cursor over the street view photo, and some of the photos are NOT the Oster Regent Theatre. they are of the Black Hawk Hotel, another historic building that is just down the block from the Oster Regent. I’m not sure how those got in there!
I love the Music Box, and have missed it a lot since moving away from Chicago in 1998. I loved the floating cloud on the ceiling and the lights that look like stars. The movies were exceptional. I hope that the new management is keeping things going as well as they were.
Some time in the early 1990s I went to the Stanford Theatre and saw the Scarlet Empress (1934) starring Marlene Dietrich. My friends and I sat in the balcony, and that evening was a peak experience for me. The theater’s decor was magnificent. The film was a pristine, gorgeous print, and the movie itself was pretty good, too. I got on the Stanford’s mailing list, even though I don’t live in California. I sent them donations, and they sent me their schedules for a couple of years. If I lived in California I would go there often.

The marquee is a little different now… I like that 1982 view, too. The current one is nice, too.
The official website address of the theatre has changed to http://www.osterregent.org/
