I find it refreshing to hear the opinion of the employees of the theater (and their friends and family) who do not prefer a quiet, comfortably heated theater; where an adult crowd can watch & hear an nc-17 film containing graphic sex, sadistic torture scenes or any such thing completely unsuitable for my 12 or 13 year old unsupervised child. Unless you are there to watch a less controversial/ less graphic movie that does not appeal as much to the younger patrons or attending a film with your kids while wearing your winter boots and jacket; I think that the 15 minute ride to the next theater is worth it even though I have the typical hectic schedule of any devoted mom and homemaker while working full time.

This is not my first problem there but it WILL be my last (they would not refund tickets when patrons talked so loudly I could not hear the movie, I left the theater after complaining to her during the movie.)I HAVE contacted Cinema North. They offered no response…and the manager in question wrote a letter in response to my Better Business Bureau complaint confabulating the entire incident to make me sound a crazed lunatic. The statement made by the sign was contrary to their business practice, as she confirmed in that letter (even further; what I witnessed when the children bought the tickets was not what she said happened yet I have no proof). In fact; she clarified the fact I made about ID…she said the children were allowed to by the tickets because an adult was called. The B.B.B. was satisfied and informed me that civil court was my next recourse. My conclusion is… Johnstown Movie-Plex Nine…No photo id required, no complaints addressed, no ethical business practice left unturned.

The sign in the window at Johnstown Movieplex 9 states; “For R-Rated films you must be 17 years of age or accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.” Photo ID required.“ Yet when I witnessed my 12 year old’s friends (12 year olds also) purchase tickets for Hostel II, rated R, I asked the children how they bought the tickets with no guardian. They told me the clerk often does this…he has gotten a phone call from another friend’s mom to allow the kids to buy whatever; they do it all the time. I asked the manager if she knew this was happening and she stated "It is not a violation of law, we only do it for a courtesy to Hollywood. I will not remove the sign (as I read it to her) and we are not a Friday Night Babysitter.” I ask, is this not a false advertisement? Misleading the consumer and violating children are of no concern to her. I commiserate with the struggling business owner trying to make a buck but this is corrupt. The other comment posted here is 100% correct as well. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Accomidating customers is not her goal.
