Joe Abbracciamentos restaurant occupied a space next to the Drake theater for many years…I thing he took over the theater to expand into a catering center of sorts….apparently it didn’t pan out…
Used to love going here as a kid…my dad would always take us here to see the Planet of the Apes movies and the James Bond movies…the extra plus was that it was across the street from White Castle…yummo!
Grew up six blocks away…saw many great movies here…Ben Hur, Sound of Music….had a popcorn machine in the lobby, for fifty cents you got a large cup of popcorn and you can press the button for butter ….the soda machine was right next to it for 25 cents…even got ice in the cup!
My Parents told me that back in the 50’s they used to have give aways at the theatre…China sets, knife sets, etc…
Great memories….early to Mid 70’s I used to walk here from Jamaica Ave in Woodhaven almost every Saturday to watch a triple feature of Karate movies or B movies.(long walk) Saw the Texas Chain Saw Massacre here and was scared to death to walk home in broad daylight (LOL)..was only $1.50 to get in and spend the whole day at the movies….

Its last hurrah was a distant shot used in the Howard Stern movie “ Private Parts” where he had to attend a movie screening
