I saw “Nightwing” at the Woods back in ‘79 with my date, Denise D. The place was so lit up that you could almost read a book in there while the movie was playing. I guess they’d had a problem with purse thefts and the like. Anyway, by that point the whole area, including the Woods, was already in decline.
I used to work at the Cinema Theatre and the manager’s name was—I’m not making this up—Jerry Usher. I worked there from April 1978 through Aug. of ‘79, when I left for college. I came back and worked Christmas break in Dec. '79/Jan. '80.
I remember we did big business with “Pretty Baby.” “Kramer vs. Kramer,” which played there for what seemed an eternity, was huge. I now see it played for about 5 months. By the way, the Water Tower Theatres did indeed open in 1976 because I saw “Rocky” there.
Wow, good old Michael Todd. The first time I saw “Gone with the Wind” was there back in ‘71 with my family. Great movie in a great showplace.

I grew up near the Hub and saw Dean Martin in a Matt Helm movie there. Good times.
Teddy666 you sound like a guy named Rocky I used to know back in my Cinema Theatre/Village Theatre days!
