The old Howard Johnson’s building that this was built behind was torn down in 2018.
The last movie shown here was in June 1978. By then, it was only showing pornographic films.
This is a great theater! My brother was working there until the coronavirus hit. They recently reopened, but they haven’t hired him back.
The neighboring Grand Union eventually became Fisher’s Variety Store, which used to be one of my favorite stores in the world. It unfortunately closed in 2007 and has been empty ever since.
Somehow, all of the Hoyt’s era signage is still intact in the lobby!
I went to see Secretariat here in November 2010.
Sesame Street filmed here from 1969-1982, when it moved to Reeves’ other Manhattan facility on 81st St. That site is now a CVS.
