New non-profit art/foreign cinema opening in Charlotte next month (June 2022). Executive Director and Cinema Director are both former long-time managers of the Manor! independentpicturehouse.org
Looks like the Theatre opened on July 4th, 1969 (a soft open maybe) with the Elvis film “The Trouble with Girls” (i have uploaded the Observer ad from July 4th), not the 10th as stated above. Looks like the film ran a week and then was replaced with “The Man From Nowhere” on the 11th. In addition it looks like the theatre closed in December of 1983 (not 86)? I found an article from 83 talking about it’s closure and i can find record of any films playing after December 10th (“The Black Cat”). I am not 100% on this but if you look at 1984 Observers it just says “closed” next to the Thunderbird.
Manor Theatre officially closing … will not reopen … https://www.charlotteagenda.com/219504/the-beloved-manor-theatre-will-close-after-73-years-in-myers-park/?fbclid=IwAR0wp-lPgdMCv_nQWdnkQIz9wslaiL635dzADH1XwcwyQYvx099GFDsRv38
Nice article on the Capri posted yesterday by The Charlotte Observer http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/retro-charlotte/article196133484.html
In doing some research on this theater i have found out that the theater actually opened on October 16th, 1964 and not on November 2nd as listed above. Not a huge deal but thought it would be good to post. I will post a picture of the opening night ad that proclaims the theater as “a new concept in theatre design” and also a blurb about the opening of the theater in the photo section.
The info at the top list the theater as having 700 seats. This is incorrect. The theater has two houses each with 186 seats. So the correct seat count for this theater is 372 seats.
I am working on a project on “Lost” Charlotte Movie Theaters for UNC-Charlotte where i am a faculty member. Would love to get in touch with anyone who as insight into this theater (stories, pics, whatever). You can send me an email at and hopefully we can talk about your interest or info on the lost theaters of Charlotte. – Thanks

Can anyone confirm that this theater is the building way at the back of the this shopping center? Or is it another building that sits somewhere else on the property? There is a free standing building (currently a 4545 address) that looks like it could have been the theater but it doesn’t jive with the info here. Anyone know?
This property is currently being renovated and turned into a music club. Has already had some shows and will be a full-time music venue.

Looks like Park Terrace will soon be moved over to the “Closed” list: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article188840369.html
Update: Sign has been torn down. Sometime in 2014? Not sure of exact date.

Just added an Ad from the Charlotte Observer – 1965 for the theater.
Posted a pic of Opening Day STAR WARS ad at Charlottetown in July of 1977. Look at the photos for this theater.
