Per the post by ken mc, Joseph Langley was the manager of the Alvarado and the brother of C. L. Langley, whose Southwest Theater Co.(precurser) to West Coast Theaters, Inc.)owned the Alvarado.

The Alexander Theater was built and owned by C. L. Langley. His company was West Coast Theaters, Inc. which he owned until 1929 when he sold the company to Fox. William Fox simply added his name to the front of West Coast.

C.L. Langley full name was Claude Leroy(which he changed to Leon). He didn’t like his name much so he went by his initials. His only son was Claude Alexander, for whom this theater was named.

C.L. died in 1943. Claude Alexander died in a car accident in 1963 in Phoenix, AZ.

Just a little bit of trivia. It’s my understanding that the very first Mickey Mouse Club was created at the Dome Theater in 1939! I saw many a movie and Saturday morning cartoons at the Dome. I lived in Ocean Park at the time. Very fond period of my life.

I was born in Santa Monica in 1944, and I lived in Santa Monica, Ocean Park and Venice the next ten years. My mother was divorced with two young boys and she would drop my brother and me off at the Dome theater in Ocean Park on Saturday mornings for about four hours watching cartoons and old movies. (This was before TV). We moved to Venice just before the Fox Venice opened. I lived down the street, so my brother and I were at the Fox on opening day (I believe it was a Saturday). It was a really big deal! There were hundreds of kids there, an emcee, some local celebrities, prizes, and so forth. They even had three or four World War II searchlights on at night during the opening period. I spent many a Saturday morning at the Fox Venice and the memories are all pleasant.
