Oh, this one really hurts. Was here on opening day to see “The Barefoot Executive” and was hired while still in middle school by the theatres' first manager, Lois Wakefield a year later. She said “you’re here so often, you might as well work here!” Was there all the way through high school, and would still do occasional short-notice shifts for several years after that. I knew it would happen sooner or later but… PS- Thanks Soundman176 for those demo photos, much appreciated.
LOVED this theatre. So reminiscent of earlier days of theatres. I lived on Jordan Ave in CP for years; always worked two jobs and Sunday was my only day off from both. My “treat” to myself was to go to Zody’s, then onto Baskin Robbins for a double hot fudge Sunday, then onto the Baronet for whatever they happened to be showing. A nice, well maintained neighborhood movie house.
Saw many, many a movie in this complex; the original screens (1-6) were decorated in that trendy brown/orange/yellow combo of the ‘70’s and the seats were very comfortable.
The 7-12 screens came later, when a Safeway supermarket located in the mall closed down, and AMC took over the space.
The Jefferson and the Cinema 7 were two different houses; the Jefferson was a single screen house run by the Neighborhood chain which was located off Arlington Boulevard (Rt 50) in Falls Church it played every first-run Disney release. My father was the porter for some time, and I was a ticket-counter when Warner Bros. four-walled the theatre for some selected releases in the mid-late 70’s.
I also worked at the Cinema 7 dishing up popcorn ;)
I was an assistant manager at the Glendale Twin in the early 80’s, and I remember the spooky upstairs apartment very well. Part of it was made into dressing rooms for us and, with the exception of an usher who used to nap there from time-to-time, none of us wanted to be anywhere near it. I also remember that there were a few of the old-style make-up mirrors found in a crawl space behind the theatre screen in the #2 house. I have fond memories of my time there — I’m so sorry it’s gone.

A very eclectic little mall; so sorry it’s gone.
