Actually the Strand was built in 1917. I have the original abstract.In about 1980 the old style marquee collapsed. As it was built, facing Troost, there was a beauty shop and a barber shop on either side of the theater entrance. The barber shop close in about 1983.
Oh, yes, I noticed that. Too bad we can’t find a picture of the original Marquee. It was outstanding.
It is currently the oldest still operating theater in Kansas City.
