This theater turned into trash. I lived a short walk away, and have fond memories of the whole area, from the mall to Funcoland to Petland. But the gangs ruined it, just like they ruined the whole of Grant west into EP
What about the guy who owns the card shop next door to the patio? I have been in there a few times(being an avid Magic player and all),I believe that is part of the building, does anybody know where he stands in all this?
lol not quite what i meant but i would much rather have that than a condo like they planned! I think the best Idea would be a museum on the spot that is a tribute to all fallen theaters in and around chicagoland
The gangs took control once this place closed. I live right over there and it was a damn shame the way the neighborhood fell apart from the Brickyard west to Harlem
Keeping the original dynamics intact would be the best thing for this theatre. If they can be reconditioned or repaired I think it would help add to the unseen feel the Movie Palaces project. I have seen a boiler, and original electrical system firsthand in a like theatre(RIP), and think that even though they are bigger and maybe largly ineffecient when compared to todays technology, if they can still be reused it would help the theater to stay true to what it is.
There probably wont be anything up for awhile. From what I hear about the developer, he has some skeletons which might prevent this from happening soon. Also, those idiots decided to do this just as the real estate bubble burst! Its not quite a good market and wont be for years, we might be looking at an empty lot for a few years…..
any condos up yet?
Bill Morton, formerly of the Adelphi can do wonderful things. I will see if I can contact him.
Again, this theater was trash because of the gangs.

I love living so close to this theater, it is really a sight for sore eyes sometimes.
