On the 28th September 1936 work commenced on clearing the site at Hill Crest where the town’s largest cinema would be built. Designed by J.Owen Bond and Son. the Regal Cinema was opened by Alderman J.Cann jp on the 1st June 1938 and was Advertised as a glorious rendezvous with all the enjoyment and comfort that Could be anticipated, with air conditioning and the latest electronic sound System.
