I used to spend my summers in Sag Harbor as a kid, and I swear it seemed like “Atomic Cafe” played for about five years. My parents live out there now, and the theater seems to get decent movies. I always tell myself I’ll catch a show at Christmas or during the summer, but I never seem to be able to.
This theater was the site of one of the infamous brawls that resulted from “Krush Groove” screenings. I believe someone got thrown through a window here, but that may be local urban legend.
I saw “Love at First Bite” starring George Hamilton here. One of my enduring childhood memories is that someone climbed the marquee and switched the title to “George Milton in Eat Shit.”
