I lived off of Beck Avenue in North Hollywood during the late 70’s and the mid 80’s. I literally grew up at the UA. My friends and I saw the movie “Grease” at least 24 times. We would sneak into all of the shows, and never got caught… lol. We saw “Conan The Barbarian”, “ET”, Rocky Horror Picture Show", “The Empire Strikes Back”, “9 to 5”, “Every Which Way But Loose”, “Escape from Alcatraz”, “Urban Cowboy”, “Moment by Moment”, Skatetown USA and Roller Boogie were just a few that I could think of off the top of my head. Last but not least, “Thanks God it’s Friday” were just a few movies that I saw over a dozen times with my friends. Those really were the days; The UA, The Valley Plaza pool, The Starlight Roller Rink and The Ice Capades Chalet at the Laurel Plaza Mall were the top hang out spots for us 80’s Kids. I never thought of the UA has a crappy little theater. It was a magical place for my friends and me. We were always excited about arriving at the first showing of a movie and then staying until dusk. The UA Theater has held the greatest memories for us, and those memories will last forever.
