The only equipment I’m aware of that is missing is the Magnetic penthouses from the Vic 8s. Why they were removed? I don’t know. The projectors do not have turrets installed on them, which is a common modification to do to these projectors, in which the magnetic heads have to be removed for real estate reasons.
Was this the last “ Famous Players ” ? Or the last VIACOM?
Most if all the Silvercities and associated complexes were funded by VIACOM ( Paramount Pictures, etc ) and were branded and operated under the Famous Players name.
If FP really owned these they would have been able to pony up the dough for the wheelchair upgrades that ended an era in Toronto Cinema over the Uptown closure back in 2003.
Star Wars ( Episode IV ) never had a 70MM engagement during it’s first run in 1977 in Vancouver. I’m 99.5% sure of this.
It did how ever come back re-releases and a charity screening of all three of them in 70MM. The details of the later I’m not too sure of but it could have been at the Stanley in 1985.
Speaking about the sound in #1, they were equipped with ALTEC Stanley Screamer subs ( same ones used during Pink Floyd’s The Wall Tour ) for extra bass impact.
Also, Granville 7, while having apparently two 70MM screens ( #7 for sure and #2 apparently was equipped for 70 at some point { Both THX as well } ) only ran 10 or less 70MM engagements starting with Die Hard in 1988 and ending with Geronimo ( sp? ) in 1994.
You wouldn’t happen to still have those pictures from the Capitol 6 #1? I tried to take a photo during a screening of Return of The King, but the low light level made the picture to dark to develop.
If you still have these photos and if you can scan them PM me PLEASE!

The Leslie Neilsen spoof “ Wrongfully Accused ” was also filmed at the Orpheum, featuring a nice sweeping shot of the interior.
Terry Gilliams currently unreleased film Dr. Parnassus was also filmed at the Orpheum, they were there for a couple of days.
Westcoast Hall was a hotel that was on the corner ( The name escapes me ) which was bought out when the Orpheum was purchased by the city.
This theater is currently open again. They are running first run films.
This IMAX theater has THE best cinema sound in Vancouver hands down.
Great Photo!
That Capitol 6 “ Extension ” out into the sidewalk was there up until around 2003-2004, when it was demolished.
I didn’t know about the monitors built into it, I wonder when those were removed? They weren’t there in 2002-2004.
Does anyone have an interior photo of this building as a cinema?

Jedi opened in 70MM at the Vogue.
To reply to Warren G Harris question from a few years ago, the current seat count at the Stanley is 650 seats.
I thought you would be adding to this Jason! haha

Just to add to the details on the building itself, The Old Palms Motel made up for the rest of the space for the complex.
Yeah #1 was something else, 1021 seats I believe.
2 & 3 were decent screens as well, but the top floor of the complex was nothing to write home about, especially towards the end.
There were shots of the lobby, but none of the actual theater itself.
