I have fond memories of visiting my cousins who lived on Coronado during the 60’s which included seeing movies at the Village Theater. The last time I saw a film there was on a weekend trip with my husband in 1997 when we had to pick through the seats to find ones where the stuffing wasn’t bursting from the upholstery. It was sad to see the theater in such bad shape. I am happy to hear of the plans for renovation of the theater. I would hope if saving the Village actually comes to pass this will be a restoration that will preserve the historic character of the theater – such as that recently completed of the Art Theatre in Long Beach CA. It’s a great little theater, I would hate to see it erased of it’s past.
