These are beautiful pictures and bring back warm memories of my youth and saturdays at the Movie Theatre and going into another word for the afternoon.
As I entered the Theatre I remember the Lobby being slightly like a hill. My first time there was to see Creature From The Black Lagoon in 3D Wow, hat an experience for a 12 yr old boy back then!!!
I remember walking into the Theatre when I was 12 to see Quo Vadis & my mouth dropped open at the beauty it projected to me opn the inside. Big,beautiful, and a wonderful place to see a Movie but the way downtown Rochester is now it wouldn’t be open for a year!!!!
I used to go there on Saturdays since they showed 3 Stooges movies as an add on to the show. When I left there I would go around the corner to Plymouth Ave & the Grand Theatre and see 2 More movies. Admission was 16 cents for kids back then!!!!!
I remember the only owner of the Theatre. He always loved movies and movie theatre’s. He had a home theatre in his cellar and dreamed of owning one and his dream came true. A great idea but was sucked up with larger theatres that came into Rochester. I loved going there.
I have lived & grew up in Gates & remember The Central Drive-In Well with its playground in front og the screen. The whole family would pile into the 53 Chevy & head out there on a Fri or Sat nite & I really have fond memories of an outdoor Movie Palace as I remember it as a young Boy
