Having worked in the area in the last few years that this theater was operating, I think I know why it closed … it looked like garbage. The awful marquee sign by the roadside was literally falling apart toward the end. And the theater itself was very run-down. I was surprised that it survived the mall renovation in 2000.

The old box office windows on either side of the entrance have been removed, and a new box office desk is inside the lobby now. I guess people got tired of standing in the rain with no canopy or overhang over the box office.

I recently went to that new DMV office … I was shocked at how small it was, considering how large the other DMV offices on Long Island are. The line literally went out the door and down the block.

How is Roosevelt Field becoming shabby? After the major renovation and expansion they had about 4-5 years ago, the mall is bigger and cleaner than ever (especially considering how close it is to Hempstead).

The only IMAX theater on Long Island.

I suppose every area had that theater that would run “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” every Friday at midnight during the 80s. This was ours. Back in the 50s, a bunch of rock ‘n roll shows were held here … my grandfather ran a few for Police Athletic League benefits. They also would mix independent films with blockbusters pretty often. I remember they ran “Pulp Fiction” for nearly six months.
