The picture of the Hi-Ho theatre is a picture of what it looks like today. I’m sorry that I didn’t mention it on the previous statment above. If you would still like to see what it looks like, please add your email to your response.

Dear Rita,
There were a total of 22 Drive-Ins. Included along with your list were also Varsity, Towne Twin, Rigsby, Valley-Hi, Alamo, Bandera, El Charro, El Capitan, Fredericksburg Rd, Judson 4, Kelly, Lackland, Parkair, San Pedro, San Pedro 5, Hi-Park, Roxy, and Hi-Park. I have some pictures of the ones that you have mentioned. If you would like to see, please let me know or email me at Not all the theatres mentioned were owned at the end by Santikos. I know he did own the Varsity, Trail, Fred Rd, and San Pedro 5 for sure.

I recently went downtown to visit the SBC building where the Texas Theater once stood and saw that the ticketbooth was also restored and stands right in front of the entrance to the building. SBC took part in also restoring it along with the facade.

I recently came across a picture of the Laurel Theatre and it was a very nice single screen theatre. There were two poster windows on each side. In the picture, the movies that were showing were “Girl Rush” and “March of Time” with a cartoon. Sadly, I read somewhere it is now the parking lot for the school across the street after it was completely demolised. I also thought like Michael and believed it was the structure on the corner with a tall odd tower, but someone informed me that it was incorrect also.

There is a structure that resembles an old theatre on S Flores and S cross that is now pink, but they keep painting the graffiti over and over again. I also have a picture of the Hi-Ho theatre on S. Presa, but corral street could not be located. Would the structure still be there? Would like to send pictures through web to you. Please respond.

John Santikos currently runs the Mission 4 Drive-In, in addition to some indoor theatres around San Antonio.
