The Queen of SF theater…pardon the pun. Good news for all Castro theater fans. The theater is closing mid september 2001 for extensive renovations….New seats new carpet new paint. Finally she is gonna get polished. If you have never been to the theater you are missing one of the greatest movie experiences….The Whirlitzer and yes it gets played before almost every movie….San Francisco open you golden gates!
Bill Grahm Presents. Not a thing has changed in this wonderful theater except there are no chairs. I have seen many concerts here and love every one L7, Gwar, Marilyn Manson, Chemical Brothers, A.F.I., The Offspring, Jerry Garcia band, Great place great shows.
NO CITY COLLGE…If you have ever seen the inside of this theater you know it is almost a twin to the Castro theater. If you want to see this theater it is open every day as a furniture store. Just ask nicely and they will let you look into…but not enter the auditorium. It’s breathtaking even packed with furniture.
The Varsity was most likely one of The San Francisco Bay Areas Biggest losses. Even till the last show Cinema Paridesio/and Rocky Horror it kept it’s glam. I went and was shocked buy the transformation Borders did to this artifact and it is awful….LONG LIVE THE VARSITY.
