The Odeon and the Empire both have excelent sound systems. I watched Casine Royale at the Odeon and is sounded amazing.
As for the movie “Leatherheads” it had a crap sound mix (overly loud, lack of surrouds etc), so it’s a bad example of a film to use to try and prove a point.
Ok I just made my second visit to the Picture House.
Slighty more enjoyable than my first visit, the new Dolby sound system has greatly improved the sound quality, allthough they need to improve the picture quality. The “cinemascope” image I saw lacked quality (looks like the shutter timing was off) and the aspect ratio was off.
Appart from that it’s a nice little community cinema, well worth a visit.
The Odeon Leicester Square incorrectly claims the “largest in Europe” tag – Scarborough’s Futurist holds 2155, although a full house for a film is unknown!
Problem being, if you look at the website for the Scarborough Futurist you will see they don’t show films any more. It’s a live theatre venue.
As of 2020 it is now student accommodation named The Palace Studios.
A shot inside screen 1 (the IMAX auditorium).

…..hmm is that a Dolby sound plaque I can see just hidden behind the top of the banister? Maybe they have installed a new sound system after all.

Your correct, I was looking at the wrong bit of the website.

Just wanted to post a corrected to the main article above.
The Cinema has 5 screens, not 4.
2 Screens upstairs and 3 downstairs.
Seating Capacities:

Screen 2: 239
Downstairs:
Screen 3: 100
Screen 4: 78
Screen 5: 333
Would love to see more interior pictures…..
I remember seeing Jurassic Park 3 in Screen 1 not long before closing. It was an great cinema and I agree that the sound system was pretty amazing.
Visited last year.
Nice auditorium, but needs some investment to improve projection and upgrade the mono sound system.
