I worked here in the Fall of 1968 as a manager. The theatre was absolutely amazing. On one one side of the stage, there were nine floors, with elevator access, of dressing rooms, many with a toilet and bathtub. I cleaned one of the rooms and used it for my tuxedo worn on special occasions. There were two movie previews for special guests. One I remember was “Rough Night in Jericho”. The top floor was reportedly the party place for performers.
I worked here for several week in the fall of 1967. Hired by to be a theatre manager. The Kenmore was a beautiful theatre. What I remember most is the movie “Privilege” being shown and a couple asking for a refund, and I accommodated them as they had just recently arrived. Privilege is definitely an unique movie that can be viewed on You Tube.
Worked at the Capitol from 1964 to 1967, first as an usher then the Manager. Theatre was owned by the Fenyvessy Family who previously had owned about eight theatres in the heydey of movies including the Strand. The theatre was only opened on Saturday and Sunday and was the home of “Action Packed Proven Hits”. From 1965 to 1967 I booked the movies for the Capitol. the top grosser was “King Kong vs Godzilla”.
The theatre was the first to show talking pictures. It started out as a vaudville house. The dressing rooms were in dismal shape, not having been used for over forty years.
