Hello. This story might seem a little weird to you, but I promise, I am not weird. My impression of “The Woods” has stayed with me since 1978. I hadn’t and never have since, seen a building like that one before. I was with a friend (we’re from Indianapolis), I have relatives in Chicago and have visited many times, as a child and an adult. That day, we embarked on a walking tour of downtown Chicago (in 1978), and as we were doing that, we turned a corner and BAM! There was “The Woods.” Honestly, I had never seen a building like that in my life before, it looked sinister, it had such a dark facade! As if it came from Transylvania or somewhere like that. I wondered, after all of these years, if the building really looked like that, did I still have the same impression of it? Was my imagination working overtime, or something? But, as I look at this picture, it brought it all back. Wow. I thought that was the spookiest-looking building I’d ever seen, and I still feel that way. It is a work of art as far as buildings are concerned, but why were such dark materials used to build it? So glad to see this online, I’m sure my cousins used to hang out there. So, there were other theatres in addition to this one, in the “Loop”. How cool is that? I wish it was still there, I would love to come and see it again. No offense meant, but that building scared me to death! It was so dark. Yes, my friend thought I had totally lost it. What a building. Looking back on it now, it was really so cool, even with the rats. This is a great site!! Keep it up.
