You must know one thing about kid shows in the ‘city’ , most theaters die with them. Fox wanted Ice Age to run at the Ziegfeld, they do not care if it looses money, Clearview took the Ziegfeld only to have a ‘Flagship’ theater in the “city” , Thank God Loews, did not keep it , They would have made it into a 15plex

O K guys I am one of the guys that ran up to the booth sunday night, I have been a projectionist for obout 34 years, the other two guys are projectionists/ service tecks, It was not a wrap, it was a patch that opend up right below the intermitted and wraped around the sprocket,Marvin did stop it in time, 2 more seconds and gears would have blown, Poor Marvin could not get the film out of the the projector… IT took my friend quite a bit of pull to get it out!
It was not his fault , it is an old print with a lot of splices, The booth does have 2 projectors (JJ 35/70) one is set uo for 35 for the clearview reel and the other one 70 mm , They can not run reel to reel (W/70mm DTS) because the only have 1 70mm dts reader, by the way 70 mm Mag does not have sound back up…no opical sound on 70 mm. One more thing, only about 10 seconds of film was damaged beyond repair not the whole reel.
O K here’s the deal…… I have been in the theater, my friend did the booth install, and I did a service call there last week. The only part of the theater is left is a small hallway in the back of the lower lobby that goes to the original stairs that goes to the balcony theater, witch was theater 2 when it was the ‘Plaza Twin’,
every other space is being used for retail, at this time they are running single features only.
To Tom,
Where do I begin, 1) projectionist licences were not county wide, For example…White Plaines, New Rochelle , Yonkers, all had their own. 2) Bobbie Dente, was the runation of the union in westchester co.(I do not know if I want ot further comment on that at this time). The local was taken over by the NYC local 306. I worked in many opf the theaters in westchester over the years, and I will try to comment on them when I can…
I worked there as a projectionist one summer, during one of those Disney fests, back, around 1974, my heart sank that another ‘Cinema Treasure’ is gone. When are we going to learn old is not bad, that the ruination of this industry that ‘we’ let all thease movie showplaces (I know the Kimball was far from that) go by the wayside to the multiplex. I love this site, I worked as a projectionist in westchester county for over 20 years and in long Island for many years after that, I now one my own theaters in Queens, Main street and Center cinemas, the stories I could tell……you know what maybe I will…….keep looking when I have more time I will post again…later …………..the movieman007
BY the way there are only 5 screens not 6, only one of the screens are in the basment, also Main Street bargain day is Wednesday, also Clearview Cinemas (We bring neibors to the movies, and screw you with our prices), they did away with their bargain day.
Jeff, remember The Zeigfeld can run reel to reel If they had some one that knows what they are doing.
The screen at South Bay is almost 40 ft wide, Almost wall to wall.
ABOUT 40 FEET WIDE, PLEASE TELL EVERYONE TO COME SO THEY WILL RUN MORE 70 MM FEATURES
I think it will be D T S,mag print does not look like it will be available, They will be running with a Dolby CP200 with the new DTS, with the memory,
